Purpose through time

Stable systems regress to the mean. Things level out on their way to average, which maintains the stability of the system. The same pressures are put on any individual in our culture. Sooner or later, unless you push back, you’ll end up at room temperature.*
Seth Godin

Five years ago,
I journaled four tests for my calling,
My sense of purpose.**

Success is not guaranteed,
Some may hate it—or at least not understand it,
It will appear more important than life itself,
It will be transformative.

Some of these may appear melodramatic,
But on reading Seth Godin’s words, I understand how
they help me rail against the well-meaning pressure
to settle for less.

What would your tests be?

*Seth Godin’s blog: Room temperature;
**I cannot remember what originally prompted me to record these.
