A walk on the wild side

Let us allow our wild spirits to roam unfettered and unbound. Let us roar and howl and voice our deepest yearnings without caring what others will think about us.*
Keri Smith

Success is the product of daily habits – not once-in-a-lifetime transformations.
James Clear

Of all things, it was his brother’s betrayal that
set Joseph^ upon a path to astonishing accomplishment that
he could not have imagined:
It can sometimes be the actions of others that
let loose our wild spirit –
This is how it was for me;
Criticised and betrayed,
I both came upon and make a path that
brings greater fulfilment and
joy,
Though it has not been all at once –
I walk a slow journey in the same direction –
Nor am I roaring and howling:
Quite the opposite – I prefer hidden and quiet.

I hope you find your wild:
You don’t have to wait
for the criticism and betrayal.

  1. Hi πŸ˜ƒ this is so cool. Thanks for sharing. I really like the poem. I also had my mind blown by The Wander Society book. Wow. I was so excited. Have you had experience doing wandering? I’m on Day 4 of wandering and some very strange incredible stuff has been happening to me

  2. I am glad the text works for you. I keep on trying to develop this. My wandering tends to be in shorter bursts, but sometimes I manage longer, over a day or two, and I am open to words and ideas that I can turn into doodles. The Wander Society is a great book. I am intrigued by you being non day four of your own wandering, wondering (those two words go together often) what you are discovering.

  3. Lol wondering & wandering I like it. That is a significant passionate amount of wandering… “over a day or two”. Really amazing stuff happened to me on all my wanders. The Wander Society book says that ridiculously magical stuff happens on wanders. Day 1 I found a deer liquor bottle on the ground (the deer is my symbol, my blogger name is Red Deer). Day 2 I came across a house on fire and called the police. Day 3 I discovered this arcane gardening symbol on a gardening hose box. Day 4 when I was walking by, a man came out of his house putting a rifle in his own mouth πŸ₯ΆπŸ₯Ά. Day 5 saw 6 cats and 3 dogs (I love animals so that counts as magical for me lol). Also when I returned home I arrived home at the same time as my wife taking a taxi home from the grocery store, completely unplanned. Day 6 (which is today) I saw a tiling company truck called the “Odyssey Tile”. The Odyssey has big personal meaning to me recently. Also it is so goofy to name a tile company after Odysseus. By themselves each of these events may be meaningless but I find, taking them all together, that this is really weird.

What have your wanders been like? I honestly didn’t enjoy the “burning house” and “rifle in mouth man” wanders. Am I doing the wanders wrong for something like this to happen to me?

  4. That is an astonishing set of things that you witnessed whilst wandering. I hope that everyone concerned is safe, including yourself – that’s a lot of difficult stuff to process, though good fr you to be in the right place at the right time. Perhaps a little less drama over the coming days, though. Keep on wandering.

  5. Haha yeah 😊 the drama did die down. Thanks. Yeah I really hope the gun guy and the people whose backyard was on fire are ok. What is your wandering like? What intention do you use to create the experience? I say to myself “No destination. Keep your eyes open” before I embark on a wandering πŸ₯Ύ

  6. I think what I’m trying to be is present, to let it be, happen. Things go awry if I try somehow to hold onto an experience to be able to return to it at some point.

  7. I don’t know about you, but I start dropping things when I try and hold onto everything, and not necessarily the things that I want to.
